Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society presents:

by Paul Carpenter and Ian Gower,
adapted from the original TV series by Jimmy Perry and David Croft

directed by Fiona Bartlett

A stage adaptation of the hugely popular British TV series, which revisits the 1950's and Maplins Holiday Camp with its host of colourful characters.

It's the start of a new season and founder Joe Maplin announces that he is setting up a camp in the Bahamas and needs female yellowcoats (entertainers) to go and work there. The annual "Miss Yellowcoat" competition will decide who. Imagine the rivalry! Camp cleaner Peggy, meanwhile, is thrilled at the prospect of a vacancy for a new yellowcoat and convinces Entertainments Manager Jeffrey that she is the ideal candidate for the job. Ted is forced to employ numerous money-making schemes when his ex wife turns up at the camp with a bailiff in tow and Yvonne and Barry Stuart-Hargreaves send the rumour mill into its usual overdrive when Gladys is overheard escorting Jeffrey into his chalet late one evening. Hi-de-hi, campers!

This amateur production of “Hi-de-Hi!” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

Charles Garland Productions present

Once Upon A Labrador

Directed by Sam Snape, with original musical interludes by Rick Wakeman

An evening of humour with Charles and his dog Alfie...

Charles Garland is a writer and composer, television producer and director. His performing career began at Birmingham Rep as a dancer in the musical Quick, Quick, Slow, and ended at The Old Vic in London as actor / musician in a production of Great Expectations.

After that, Charles joined the BBC, as assistant to Sir Jonathan Miller for a new production of Cosi Fan Tutte.

Following Mozart, he worked on Blue Peter, three Royal Variety shows, sketch and variety shows, including The Paul Daniels Magic Show, as well as dramas and a stint as director of Top Of The Pops. Sitcom became a major part of his working life, with Terry and June, Joint Account and Last Of The Summer Wine as assistant producer, and assisting David Croft OBE on Hi-De-Hi!, 'Allo 'Allo!, You Rang, M'Lord? and Oh, Dr Beeching! as producer. Next, over a three year period, Charles re-edited most of the classic comedy archive for the BBC, including Dad's Army, Steptoe and Son, Porridge, Are You Being Served?, The Good Life, The Two Ronnies and many more.

Having left the BBC, Charles is now freelance, and going back to his roots with his book of ‘whimsical verse’ entitled My Labrador Eats Poo (not quite as disgusting as it sounds) illustrated by Harry Venning, and this stage show, which features Charles and his Labrador Alfie. | facebook | twitter

HIADS Film Showing:

Their Finest

Starring Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy, Jack Huston, Paul Ritter

1940, London, the Blitz; with the country’s morale at stake, Catrin (Gemma Arterton; Gemma Bovery), an untried screenwriter, and a makeshift cast and crew, work under fire to make a film to lift the nation’s flagging spirits; and inspire America to join the war. Partnered alongside fellow screenwriter, Buckley (Sam Claflin; Me Before You), the pair set off to make a film that will warm the hearts of the nation and capture the imagination of the American population.

Alongside Gemma Arterton and Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy (Love Actually) stars as fading matinee idol Ambrose Hilliard, who reluctantly joins their production in a supporting role.

Based on Lissa Evans’ novel, ‘Their Finest Hour and a Half’, THEIR FINEST is a witty, romantic and moving portrayal of a young woman finding her way, and her voice, in the mayhem of war… and the movies!

The classic sound with a modern twist

The Story So Far...

Rhythm and Fuse first took to the stage in June 2015 at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard. At an open-air concert commemorating D-Day, with air-raid sirens and spotlights filling the air, and hundreds of people dancing in the aisles, the concert was a celebration of war-time sights and songs. The music of Glenn Miller marked the moment when the Band began.

In March 2016 Rhythm and Fuse became the House Band of the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth, and was there to perform at the end of a gala evening celebrating 160 years of the Theatre’s history.

On 8 July 2016 Rhythm and Fuse performed its first concert at the New Theatre Royal. 'The Big Band Night' gave a taste of 4 decades of big band music. In September the Band will be back at the New Theatre Royal for an evening celebrating the music of a British film icon – James Bond.

The Musicians...

Rhythm and Fuse is made up of professional musicians with years of experience performing at major venues and in front of thousands of people throughout the United Kingdom. Many of our musicians have performed internationally and alongside world famous instrumentalists and singers. The musicians in Rhythm and Fuse bring with them years of dedication and commitment to creating a quality sound at every event.

The Ambition...

Rhythm and Fuse is the classic sound with a modern twist. The Band will bring together inspirational music with film, words and images, to create a theatrical experience. So whether the Band performs at a wedding, a private function or at one of our stage shows it really will be an unforgettable fusion of rhythm, sights and sounds.

Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society presents:

by David Storey

directed by Martin Stevens

Home features the interactions of five eccentric characters.

On a terrace in the grounds of a house, two gentlemen, Harry and Jack, meet and pass the time of day in a conversation which, although somewhat disconnected, is warm, courteous and often amusing. Later they join up with two ladies, Marjorie and Kathleen. Of the two, Marjorie does her best to remain prim and proper while the more raucous Kathleen can find a dirty meaning in the most innocuous words or phrases. The fifth character, Alfred, creates confusion by practising his weight-lifting skills with the furniture.

Slowly we learn more about each of them, where they are and why they are there.

This award-winning play by David Storey had successful runs in London and on Broadway and was adapted for television in the “Play for Today” series.

This amateur production of “Home” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

-70 Years On!-

Harlequinade and The Loose Canon

The Southsea Shakespeare Actors (b. 1947) celebrate their 70th birthday with a double helping of scrumptious comedy – all in one lovely evening.

Your first course:.

The race is on as two actors and a critic have to account for every play before the hour is up. Was William Shakespeare actually Christopher Marlowe disguised as Francis Bacon? When a boy dresses as a girl who’s pretending to be a boy, who really wears the trousers? Why are there so many shipwrecks? And who wrote The Four Noble King’s Gentlemen from Verona? A hilarious headlong attempt to deliver the whole canon of Shakespeare plays in 60 minutes or less. Synchronise your watches and fasten your seat belts....

Your second course:

by Terence Rattigan

Written in 1947, the same year that saw the founding of The Southsea Shakespeare Actors, this is a rarely seen comic gem, a wonderfully funny one-act farce about a classical theatre company just before their opening night on tour in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Their intrigues and dalliances come to light in a series of surprising revelations, with increasingly calamitous consequences, in this affectionate celebration of the lunatic art of putting on a play.

Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society presents:

Directed by Dafydd Modig

Written by Dafydd Modig and Anthony Barden

HIADS panto offering this season is the all time classic "Cinderella".

This time the question isn't "will good defeat evil" but rather "will virtue get it's just reward"! Cinders is good, kind and everything that is lovely (Aaaahhh). Unfortunately, her stepmother and sisters are the opposite and treat the poor girl as a lowly drudge (Booooo / Hisssss).

So when you meet her you're bound (just like the soft hearted Buttons) to fall in love with dear Cinders and hope she escapes her wretched life. Fortunately, her Fairy Godmother is on hand to help things move in the right direction - and, with Prince Charming searching for someone to love him just for being himself then, just maybe, everything may work out for Cinders...

Come and see if this story has its happy ending - Oh no it won't - Oh yes it will!
