What's On Events List
Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society presents
The Final Curtain
A original drama by Larry Collins
Directed by Jason Christopher
Gladys is worried. The great war is here and her boys could get conscripted or sign up at at any moment. How can she protect them?
And then she sees curtains being closed as each house goes into mourning for a lost soldier. She doesn't want to lose her sons. She doesn't want to have to close the curtains.
From the Director: "It is with an immense amount of pride that we are able to present The Final Curtain for you, as a brand new play. Although still very much a narrative of how the great war affected a great number of families, we focus on this particular family. Howard and Gladys Richardson and their two sons and their daughter. How the family becomes divided by war, and their world turns upside down.
Watching this play develop from a draft concept into a fully formed, moving and powerful piece of stage drama has been an absolute thrill for me. I could not be more proud of my fabulous cast (many of whom are new to the Station Theatre), who have totally embraced their characters and brought them into living, breathing, laughing and crying reality.
‘Enjoy’ is definitely not the right word when it comes to any story about the Great War - or any war for that matter, but we all hope you become as immersed in the piece as we have."

Hansel and Gretel

Written and Directed by Vicky Fox
Hansel and Gretel are lost in the enchanted woods. It's cold and they are oh so very hungry. But what's this? All of a sudden, as if by magic, they find a beautiful house surrounded by the wonderful smell of fresh cooked gingerbread. It's decorated with icing and all sorts of gorgeous sweeties. As they approach a lovely old lady appears and invites them in for dinner. What lucky children they are! The only trouble is... That old lady is really a wicked and powerful witch and the children ARE the dinner!
Will Hansel's brawn and Gretel's brains win the day? Will the wicked witch get her meat and no veg, or will she get a kinder surprise?
